Trade negotiations between India and the United States will accelerate this week in New Delhi, following Washington's decision to impose a 50% tariff on Indian goods. The move, enacted in late August, has already contributed to a nine-month decline in India's exports, with August figures showing a drop to $35.1 billion from $37.24 billion in July.

Rajesh Agarwal, India's chief trade negotiator, confirmed the expedited discussions but declined to specify agenda items. Brendan Lynch, the U.S. trade delegate for South Asia, will lead the American delegation during his one-day visit. The full impact of the tariff hike may not surface until September's trade data release, as the increased duties took effect NEAR August's end.

Merchandise shipments to the U.S. fell sharply to $6.86 billion in August from $8.01 billion the previous month. For the April-August period, Indian exports to America totaled $40.39 billion. The trade deficit showed marginal improvement, narrowing to $26.49 billion from July's $27.35 billion.
